NEWS DESK: The ban on Verna was lifted yesterday and the film hits the cinemas across the country today (Friday). Meanwhile, Mahira Khan is relishing the power of artistes.
According to Reporter, the censor board lifted the ban after omitting ‘objectionable content’ from the movie. The censor board had banned the movie due to its sensitive content, saying the film ‘portrays the state institutions in an undesirable manner’.
The decision of banning the movie was met with negative responses from the public. The ban was finally lifted and the much-awaited film releases today.
Mahira also spoke out against the ban imposed on Verna by the censor board on Wednesday.
In a tweet message, the Pakistani actress wrote “May the power of the voices of the people be stronger than a few in positions of power.” #verna
Verna is helmed by Shoaib Mansoor and is his comeback film which according to Mahira Khan, took six years to make.
The film ran into trouble on Tuesday when the censor board raised objections pertaining to the film. The ban caused a furor on social media with fans of Mahira and Shoaib Mansoor questioning the move.
Tonight I realize how powerful artists are, not those in power. We are. Why else do we get banned? Why else do our films pose a threat to them? In this game of power – we will always win. Art/love/truth always does! #PowerDiGame #verna
